This policy explains what X9M8 collects when you visit x9m8.com, why, who else touches it, and what you can do about it. It’s written to be read.

1. Who we are

X9M8 (“X9M8,” “we,” “us”) is a website and app project operated by Peter Kalafatis on Long Island, New York, at x9m8.com. This policy covers the website and any apps or tools we publish on it. It doesn’t cover other sites we link to, including our sister sites, which have their own policies.

2. What we collect

Browsing the site requires nothing from you. We collect information in three ways.

Information you give us

  • Your name, email address, and message when you write to us.
  • Your name, email address, website, and comment text if you leave a comment.
  • Any details you enter into an app or tool we offer, as described on that app’s page.

Information collected automatically

  • Technical data such as your IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, referring page, and the pages you view and for how long.
  • Approximate location derived from your IP address.
  • Standard server and security logs.

Information from others

Anti-spam and analytics services we use may return signals about a visit, such as whether a comment looks like spam.

We don’t knowingly ask for sensitive personal information, and we don’t take payments directly on this site.

3. How we use it

  • To reply to your messages and run the features you ask for.
  • To publish and moderate comments.
  • To understand which pages and tools people find useful, so we can improve them.
  • To keep the site secure, fast, and free of spam and abuse.
  • To meet legal obligations.

We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t rent it out.

4. Cookies and analytics

Cookies are small files a site stores in your browser so it can remember things between visits. This site uses them for basic operation and for measurement.

We use Google Analytics through the Site Kit by Google plugin to count visits and see how pages are used. Google sets its own cookies and receives data such as your IP address and device details for this purpose. You can learn how Google handles that data in its own privacy policy, and you can opt out with Google’s browser add-on for analytics opt-out.

If we turn on advertising, such as Google AdSense, Google and its partners may use cookies to show ads. We’ll update this policy before that happens.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Most of the site keeps working without them. At present, the site doesn’t change its behavior in response to Do Not Track signals.

5. Who else sees it

We share information only with the services that help us run the site, and only as needed:

  • Google for analytics (and advertising, if enabled).
  • Our web host and caching provider, which process requests and store site data.
  • Akismet for spam filtering of comments and form entries.
  • Content delivery networks that serve code libraries and fonts. They receive your IP address when your browser loads those files.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to enforce our Terms of Service, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or others. If X9M8 is ever sold or transferred, your information may move with it, subject to this policy.

The site links to other websites. We don’t control what they collect, so read their policies before you share anything.

6. How we protect it

The site is served over HTTPS, access to the administration area is limited and password protected, and we keep the software up to date and scan for known vulnerabilities. No system is perfectly secure, and we can’t promise otherwise. We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above or as the law requires. Comments stay until we remove them. Messages are deleted when they’re no longer useful.

7. Your choices and rights

You can ask us to show you the personal information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Email us at the address below and we’ll respond promptly. We may need to confirm it’s really you first.

Residents of California and some other states have additional rights under state privacy laws, including the right to know what is collected and to request deletion. We honor those requests whether or not a law requires us to. Because we don’t sell personal information, there is nothing to opt out of on that front. Under the California Online Privacy Protection Act, visitors can use the site anonymously, and this policy is linked from every page.

8. Children

X9M8 isn’t directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their personal information, consistent with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we’ll delete it.

9. Email and CAN-SPAM

We use your email address only to answer you, unless you separately ask to receive updates. Any commercial email we send will identify us accurately and include a way to stop receiving it. To unsubscribe, reply to the message or write to us, and we’ll remove you promptly.

10. If something goes wrong

If a security incident exposes your personal information, we’ll notify affected people promptly, and in the way and time frame required by applicable law, including New York’s data breach notification requirements.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site changes. The “last updated” date at the top shows the current version, and material changes will be noted on this page.

12. Contact
